QUEBEC - On Friday night, Opération Nez Rouge resumed its drive-home service for holiday revellers who overindulge – kicking off its 26th season. The volunteer organization drove home 68,555 people across Canada during last year’s campaign, with 49,816 volunteers lending a hand to the many who had overindulged in holiday cheer.
After operating expenses were taken from tips provided by tipsy users of the service, Nez Rouge has contributed $17.3 million to youth or amateur sports organizations since 1984.Since Nez Rouge began operating, the number of fatalities on Quebec roads linked with alcohol consumption has dropped to 32 per cent – from 50 per cent a quarter-century ago.
