Quebec to toughen drunk-driving law

Source: Montreal Gazette

QUEBEC -
Motorists caught driving with a blood/alcohol level of between .05 and .08 per cent will see their drivers’ licenses suspended for 24 hours under legislation that is to be introduced in the National Assembly this week.

Transport Minister Julie Boulet announced the new measure on Monday after the Table québécoise de la sécurité routière delivered its second report on road safety in Quebec.

The new drunk-driving rule – already in effect in every other Canadian province – was on of the 27 recommendations made by the provincial advisory group, led by Jean-Marie De Koninck.
