Last weekend, with extra patrols added as part of its Christmas Counter Attack campaign, police hauled in another 12 drivers — nine for alcohol and three for impairment by drugs.

On Saturday morning, patrol team members responded to a report of a vehicle repeatedly colliding with roadside barriers while crossing Lions Gate Bridge. The vehicle was founded stopped on Marine Drive near Taylor Way, with the driver unconscious behind the wheel, Const. Jeff Palmer stated in a release.

After further investigation, including an evaluation of the driver by a West Vancouver officer with Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training, it was determined the driver was under the influence of heroin.

Overall, since Dec. 1, five drivers face police recommended criminal charges for Impaired Driving or Drive While Over .08.

Forty-five drivers have been served with 24 hour driving prohibitions due to alcohol and four have been served 24 hour driving prohibitions for drug impairment.

Police ask that the public call in any vehicle being driven in a manner that makes you suspect the driver is impaired.
